Marquise Technologies to announce a new Color Management paradigm for HDR deliveries using MIST
Geneva, Switzerland, 22.03.2016 – Swiss-based developer of high-end solutions for post-production Marquise Technologies announced today a new powerful Color Management system allowing users to work in the best possible conditions for delivering new HDR and REC2020 deliverables efficiently and with accuracy.
High Dynamic Range and Wide Gamut are an important part of the UHD experience, and are already required for premium OTTs and high-end home video content. However managing both HDR and SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) versions of the same material may become expensive in time and money if not produced properly.
The new Color Management system interface available in MIST allows color integrity from any source image to ACES, becoming the reference workspace within MIST for any HDR workflow. Working in ACES for mastering warrants standardized and reliable color transformation to the desired deliverables, including 4K IMF REC2020 or HDR HEVC. This important mastering process can be performed in a controlled viewing environment, using HDR reference display devices. ACES cc and ACES proxy are also fully implemented. The Color Management system continues to offer source native color space workflows as well as custom LUTs.
The HDR extensive features set also includes tone mapping using a full range of color grading tools, including curves, luminance controls or vectors and shapes. This allows fine adjustments when creating a SDR version from a HDR content.
With the support of latest industry standards SMPTE ST-2084 (PQ curve) and ST-2086, MIST allows the HDR content to be precisely displayed on HDR enabled monitors for reviews. Display of HDR metrics, including MaxFALL and MaxCLL, are part of the monitoring toolset.
Upon creation of a HDR IMF master or a HDR HEVC, specific metadata are encoded in the deliverable in order to carry the exact information for an optimal HDR viewing experience and to keep trace of color information for archive purposes.
HDR workflows will be demonstrated at NAB using high end Canon monitor.
